A few weeks ago, I wrote a note about setting goals with my family for the year. On the recommendation of a friend (thanks Fletch!), we also spent a few hours creating vision boards as a family for the year A few people have asked me about them, so I thought I would share the details. I’ll admit that the term “vision board” had mixed connotations for me initially from Oprah. But then I thought about it and she’s pretty successful, so what do I have to lose?
We bought a bunch of magazines, glue sticks and foam boards and laid them out on the table for everyone to pick from and then each of us cut out pictures and words that represented our goals and dreams. For those of you who are over 35, this is how photobooks used to get made 🙂 .
We each created our own vision board and everyone really enjoyed it the process. It’s also fun to have a visual picture of everything we want to do for the year. It’s also a really good exercise as a couple to make sure you are “literally” on the same page.
What’s also been interesting is that as the boards have sat around the house for the final touches, they have become a point of discussion with friends and family. The next step is to hang them up in our rooms for a reminder and accountability.
What’s amazing is how many of the aspirational things that we have put on our boards each year came true, including an incredible trip to the Superbowl.
If you don’t feel like you are shooting high enough with your goals this year, here is a great list of 50 thoughts that can motivate you to do anything.
Have a great weekend!
