“Glazer has written a winner!
The Compass Within is more than excellent
storytelling—it’s a timeless parable that
illustrates the power of living and leading
in alignment with your core values.”
Patrick Lencioni, New York Times Bestselling
Author of The Five Dysfunctions of A Team
If I walked into a room today and asked 100 people if they could list their core values, only about two of them could do it. I’d also wager that those two people would have a clear focus in life, and are on their way or to achieving, or have achieved, multiple life goals. They also know they’re making the right choices at crucial decision points—choices on things like their life partner, their career or where they live.
A lot of people understand the importance of values in their lives. However, there is a big difference between believing you have values—ones like honesty, integrity, or kindness—and having a clear list of your unique core values that can guide your daily decisions. You are selling yourself short if you haven’t taken the time to get absolute clarity on what you value.
That’s why I spent three years writing and editing this book.
The Compass Within: A Little Story About The Values That Guide Us will help readers identify and articulate their core values and align their life to those principles. It outlines a proven, accessible core values discovery process through a fictional parable inspired by books like Patrick Lencioni’s The Five Dysfunctions of a Team.
The Compass Within follows a young professional at a major life crossroads, guided by a mentor to uncover his personal values and make pivotal decisions about his career, relationships, and community. It illustrates the core value discovery process—and the powerful personal and professional outcomes that core value clarity generates—then concludes with an explanation of the exercise that readers can use to gain that clarity for themselves.
I like to say everything I’ve achieved in my bio came after I got clarity on my own core values. Creating a list of core values and using those values to guide your daily actions is the best thing you can do to level up in your personal life, your career and your leadership. This is why my vision for this book is to help one million people discover their core values, which I believe are foundational to reaching potential in leadership and life. I hope you’ll start doing this vital work for yourself, using The Compass Within as your guide.
